The Knowledge Center of this website is organized into three main sections:

  • The “Start Here” section provides general (non-country-specific) information for US citizens living or planning to move abroad, like general tax filing and reporting Information, citizenship renunciation, and the exit tax.

  • The other two sections, the "Americans in …" section and the "Foreign Investors" section, are specific to countries and residency.

  • The articles in the "Americans in …" section are intended for U.S. citizens and permanent residents ("green card holders") residing in the following European countries: France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.

    • Within this section, pages with the prefix "US" are explicitly written for Americans, while those with the prefix "UK" are intended for British readers living in the U.S. For example, the entry “(US) UK Pension System” explains the UK Pension System to Americans, who are presumably unfamiliar with it. Pages with the prefix (US/UK) are intended for residents of either the United States or the United Kingdom.

  • The articles in the "Foreign Investors" section are intended for investors in the specified country who are neither citizens nor permanent residents of the United States (US) and who may have U.S. income and own U.S. assets.

  • The 2-letter country codes are:

    DE - Deutschland (Germany)
    IE - Ireland
    IT - Italy
    PT - Portugal
    US - United States
    UK - United Kingdom
